| Hardwood
flooring has long been a favorite of both architects and homeowners.
There's simply no other building material that offers the same warmth
and durability of natural wood. Launstein has grown to become North
America's leading manufacturer and distributor of 3/8" solid hardwood
flooring.
The
company began as Launstein Sawmills back in 1956 when Don Launstein,
just out of high school, leased a single portable sawmill that he
hauled from woodlot to woodlot. Shortly there after, he went into
partnership with his father, who supervised the pallet division
while Don continued to run the sawmill operation. Launstein Hardwoods,
as the business became known, now covers a 27 acre complex just
outside of Mason, Michigan, and includes a wholesale hardwood lumber
distribution yard and retail store.

In
1976 the company began manufacturing 3/4" and 3/8" hardwood flooring
products, borrowing their unique eased edge tongue and groove technology
from the company's already successful wall covering business.
After
six years the decision was made to discontinue 3/4" flooring and
concentrate on manufacturing a superior quality, cost effective
3/8" solid hardwood product. The result is a far more economical
flooring system that offers both environmental and structural benefits
over traditional 3/4" methods.
